You can ring in 2025 with a throwback to the early 2000s when Canadian pop-punk band Simple Plan take the stage on New Year’s Eve in Brampton.
With the holiday season fast approaching, the City of Brampton has unveiled its lineup of performers to ring in the new year that includes some local talent along with acclaimed Canadian pop-punk outfit and Juno Award winners Simple Plan.
Formed in Montreal in the late ’90s, Simple Plan had breakout hits on their 2002 album No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls including “I’d Do Anything,” “I’m Just a Kid,” “Addicted” and “Perfect.”
Along with acts like Avril Lavigne and Sum 41, the band was part of a Canadian pop-punk wave that took over the airwaves in the 2000s thanks to the popularity of bands like Green Day and Blink 182 in the U.S.
“They’ve sold 10 million albums worldwide, won multiple Juno Awards, performed at the 2010 Winter Olympics – and, most recently, launched the omnipresent #ImJustAKid TikTok challenge that’s spawned more than 4 million videos, including clips from Hilary Duff, Ed Sheeran, Usher and Venus and Serena Williams,” the city says of the band.
Simple Plan will headline Brampton’s New Year’s Eve celebrations in Garden Square with performances by local acts including rapper Spitty, genre-bending pop-rock performer CMAGIC5, and DJ MusicBlender.
There will also be food and beverages available from vendors and food trucks on Main Street North, as well as festive treats and hot drinks to keep warm while enjoying the celebration.
When the clock strikes midnight, the city will unleash a dazzling fireworks display sponsored by Tim Hortons.
The city will let customers ride for free on Brampton Transit on Dec. 31 after 7 p.m. with extended service, and there’s also free parking available at multiple downtown garages.
“With a fantastic lineup of performers, including Simple Plan and a spectacular fireworks display, this year’s celebration promises to be unforgettable. We can’t wait to ring in 2025 with you,” Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said in a statement.
New Year’s Eve celebrations start in Brampton’s Garden Square at 7 p.m. on Dec. 31.
