The Canada-wide hunt for a Mississauga woman sought in connection with the murder of a 16-year-old Quebec boy has intensified as police have joined forces with a nationwide program that uses social media and other technology to track down the country’s most-wanted suspects.
Homicide detectives with York Regional Police on the trail of Katherine Bergeron-Pinzarrone, 27, said on Wednesday they’ve partnered with the BOLO Program in efforts to locate the Mississauga woman. She’s also known to live in Quebec, police noted.
Bergeron-Pinzarrone is being sought on a country-wide second-degree murder warrant related to the Aug. 8 stabbing death of the Montreal teen in Richmond Hill during a car theft.
The Bolo Program, which takes its name from the popular police term “be on the lookout,” leverages social media, technology and innovative engagement to raise awareness about wanted people and encourage citizens to be on the lookout for Canada’s most wanted.
“We are hopeful that this partnership with the Bolo Program will increase our chances of locating this (alleged) violent offender,” said York police Chief Jim MacSween.
The wanted woman, listed at No. 7 on the BOLO Program’s latest 25 Most-Wanted in Canada list, is further described as 5-foot-1, 122 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
Police warn anyone who sees Bergeron-Pinzarrone to not approach her, but instead call 911 immediately.
Investigators also urge the wanted woman to “seek legal counsel and turn herself in.” Police say anyone who helps the suspect evade capture could also be subject to criminal charges.
Police said that at around 6 a.m. on Aug. 8, officers were called to a hospital in York after the 16-year-old boy, later identified as being from Montreal, arrived at the emergency department suffering from a stab wound.
“The victim was accompanied by two other males, one of which left immediately after they dropped the victim off,” police said earlier, adding the teen was pronounced dead a short time later.
Investigators also said earlier this fall that two other suspects are being sought by police on warrants while a third man is wanted for questioning.
