The family and former coaches of a Caledon teen killed in a car crash this week say they’re devastated by the death of young basketballer Milo Yekmalian.
Just before 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday (May 17), officers and emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle collision on Charleston Sideroad near Shaws Creek Rd. in Caledon.
Police say one victim was pronounced deceased at the scene and a second victim was transported to hospital for minor injuries.
The deceased has been identified as 18-year-old Yekmalian, a former member of the Halton Basketball Club.
Milo’s father Alen Yekmalian said no words ever explain the feeling of loss the family was feeling after his son’s death.
“The love felt by all of Milo’s friends and the basketball community is overwhelming,” Alen Yekmalian said in a post online shared with insauga.com. “I only wish I could thank each and every one of you for you thoughts prayers and warm messages. We read everyone of them.”
Milo’s former coaches also posted on Facebook offering condolences to the Yekmalian family.
“For us coaches in the basketball community who get to know these kids growing up over the years this is absolutely devastating,” the Halton Basketball Club said in a post on Facebook.
Police say the collision is still under investigation and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to contact Caledon OPP at 905-584-2241 or 1-888-310-1122.
