A Caledon cop is getting the chance to live out her professional hockey dreams as a member of the new Professional Women’s Hockey League’s Toronto team.
Members of the Ontario Provincial Police will be cheering on the PWHL Toronto take on Minnesota at the Xcel Energy Center as one of their own is on the roster.
Caledon OPP Const. Jess Jones wears No. 23 for PWHL Toronto and already saw ice time during the team’s regular-season opener against New York last week.
The 33-year-old forward from Picton, Ont., was a member of Canada’s inaugural IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship team in 2008 and played with the Mercyhurst Lakers in the NCAA Division I from 2008 to 2012.
Jones then went on to play in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League but set her sights on a career in law enforcement, enrolling in the Ontario Police College and joining the OPP.
“We’re all excited about the PWHL Toronto season. Even more exciting to watch our Caledon OPP Constable Jess Jones,” the OPP Central Region shared in a post on social media.
Jones has yet to tally any points but the season has just got underway with Toronto set to take on Minnesota on Wednesday. The game starts at 8 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast on TSN and live-streamed on YouTube.
