A U.S.-based café opens its first-ever Canadian location in Mississauga.
Matari Coffee Co., a specialty coffee shop serving 100 percent organic Yemeni coffee, only had one other location in Canton, Michigan before opening its second storefront at 3465 Platinum Dr. Unit #97.
The wait is finally over for coffee lovers, as the new location officially opened on Sunday (July 16) in the new Erin Mills Centre at Ridgeway Drive and Eglinton.
The shop’s beans come from Matari or Bani Matar—one of the most extensive coffee-growing areas in Yemen. It is renowned for producing the finest types of Yemeni coffee because of its high-altitude regions.
“While we cannot speak for the coffee of the early centuries, we will let our Matari coffee speaks for itself,” the company states on its website. “For its rich taste and texture remains as authentic as the first cup brewed.”
The shop offers an array of hot beverages including espressos, macchiatos, cappuccinos and lattes. These drinks can also be made with ice for those that enjoy cooler beverages.
There is also a dark roast Turkish-style coffee and Qishr (coffee husks with ginger and cinnamon) available.
The cafe offers an iced Pistachio frap which comes in a fancy glass topped with whipped cream.
If you prefer chai, there are a few options on their menu to choose from including a signature blend that has a green tea base, a hint of himalayan pink salt, milk and spices, topped with roasted pistachios.
What goes well with a caffeinated drink? A dessert, of course!
Matari has various selections of milk cakes to choose from, but a crowd favourite is their pistachio cheesecake.

The café is open from 12 pm – 12 am Sunday – Thursday and 12 pm – 1 am on Friday and Saturday a whole extra hour for those craving a late night caffeine rush or simply a place to hang out with some friends.
