Bystanders rescued two people after a plane flipped and crashed into an Ontario lake Wednesday morning.

The plane crashed into Catchecoma Lake in the Municipality of Trent Lakes just after 9 a.m. Wednesday, Peterborough County OPP said.

Witnesses told OPP they saw the plane coming in for a landing but when it hit the water, the plane flipped, police said.

Police said bystanders went out to where they saw the plane go into the water and brought both the pilot and passenger safely to shore. There were no injuries reported.

Police along with fire crews and paramedics responded to the marina off County Road 507 where the bystanders brought the two occupants of the plane.

The plane sank into over 100 feet of water and a local marina has been contacted to help facilitate the recovery of the plane.
