Bylaw officer assault leads to another arrest and charges for Brampton man

An attack on a bylaw officer has led to a second arrest and assault charges laid against two men, including one from Brampton.
The assault happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning around when a Town of Caledon Municipal Law Enforcement Officer was on duty on Fallview Circle in the community of Southfields Village, the OPP says.
The bylaw officer was reportedly jumped “by a group of individuals” while “in the course of their duties.”
Police said the bylaw officer was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
One person was located and arrested in relation to the incident on Thursday and investigators said they were seeking an arrest warrant for a second identified suspect.
A third, unidentified suspect is still at large.
Now police say two people, a 33-year-old suspect from Brampton and a 26-year-old from Caledon, have been arrested and charged with assault.
The OPP says Avhijeet Araich, 33, of Brampton, and Japdeep Brar, 26, of Caledon, have both been charged with one count each of assault peace officer – cause bodily harm.
Caledon Mayor Annette Groves said the incident is the first time in years that a town bylaw officer was assaulted while on the job.
“No one should ever face the risk of violence when they go to work,” the mayor said in a release. “Employee safety remains our top priority, and we continue to work with our entire staff team to ensure they feel safe when they come to work.”
