If you were planning to grab a gourmet quick-service dinner from the long-standing Burger’s Priest location in Port Credit, you might be disappointed to hear that the restaurant has closed its doors.

The popular chain recently announced that it shuttered its 129 Lakeshore Rd. E. location on July 15.

A reason for the closure was not provided on the restaurant’s website.

The closure has come as a surprise to residents who had been visiting the burger joint’s first Mississauga outpost for close to 10 years. The brand, founded by local restaurateur Shant Mardirosian, has been steadily growing since its inception in 2010.

What started as a single, seminary-themed restaurant on Queen Street East in Toronto’s Beaches neighbourhood has since grown to a chain of more than 20 eateries.

According to the Entrepreneurial Leaders Organization, Mardirosian sold the brand to Cara Foods after opening up 14 locations.

After selling the company, Mardirosian–who made headlines when he paired his love of theology (he studied to become a priest) with this thirst for a good burger–went on to open celebrated pizza joint The Fourth Man in the Fire.

Over the past decade, Port Credit’s Burger’s Priest location witnessed changes in the food landscape of Mississauga’s busy waterfront community. Taking over what was once a Quizno’s location, the plaza the resto called home used to be anchored by Ten Restaurant and Wine Bar. The Ten space is now home to The Port House Social Bar + Kitchen.

Ten years ago, Mardirosian told INsauga.com he chose Port Credit because of the close-knit vibes.

“Port credit is a very community-oriented area and I wanted to have my first Mississauga unit in a tight-knit community,” he said.

Now, Mississauga diners with a craving for the Priest will have to visit the brand’s 5027 Hurontario Street location.
