Counterfeit money bust in Ontario.

Thousands of dollars in counterfeit cash have been recovered by police and two people are facing charges after officers responded to a report of a “suspicious vehicle” earlier this week in a small eastern Ontario town.

Ontario Provincial Police said the series of events unfolded Tuesday morning at about 10 a.m. when officers approached a “suspicious vehicle” that was parked on Crookston Road in Madoc, north of Belleville.

“It was confirmed that one person in the vehicle had an outstanding arrest warrant and was arrested,” Central Hastings OPP said in a news release on Thursday. “A subsequent search of the vehicle located a quantity of counterfeit cash as well as the equipment and materials used to make it.”

A second person in the car was also arrested, police said.

On Wednesday, police executed a search warrant at a home on Cooper Road in Madoc and discovered more counterfeit cash and additional materials and equipment.

“The value of the completed and partially completed counterfeit cash is into the thousands of dollars,” police said.
