A beloved GO Transit service is returning to Brampton.

But first, let’s recap on what has happened in the last couple of months.

Back in December of 2018, the Ontario government announced that there will be expanded service along the Kitchener GO line.

This line services Brampton, the Halton Region, Guelph and Kitchener as seen below.

As of Jan. 7, a big change for people travelling by GO Transit between Kitchener and Toronto’s Union Station came into effect.

These travellers were introduced to an additional GO train service every weekday morning and afternoon, with a new trip option for customers in Kitchener, Guelph and Acton.

As a result of this change, a morning trip that used to start at Georgetown GO Station would now begin at Kitchener GO Station at 5:40 am., stopping at Guelph and Acton GO stations before continuing to serve all stops to Union Station, arriving at 7:43 am.

This change, however, has greatly impacted travellers during the afternoon rush.

And Metrolinx has responded.

“Metrolinx is re-introducing the popular 4:50 p.m. express trip from Union Station along the Kitchener rail line. Just like before, the trip will run express between Union Station and Bramalea GO Station, and then serve all stops to Kitchener,” a recent Metrolinx blog post reads.

In order to offer this service, a new train will be running. This will provide more than 1,000 more seats during the afternoon commute.

This new service will come into effect on Feb. 13.

The reintroduction of the express train was announced by Metrolinx CEO, Phil Verster, today (Jan. 28).
