One of the GTA’s largest sports and entertainment centres, the Powerade Centre has been a landmark in Brampton since it was built in 1998 – and Bramptonians have known it as the Powerade Centre for a long, long time.
And now, Brampton’s Powerade Centre is getting a new name!
Realstar Group announced on Thursday that CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) just got naming rights for the Powerade Centre for the next 10 years. As of spring 2018 when rebranding is complete, the Powerade Centre will officially be known as the CAA Centre.
Though it might remain the Powerade Centre in many of our hearts.
Who held its naming rights prior to this change?
Coca Cola has actually held naming rights to the 5,000-seat iconic arena since 2005.
“In advance of the official transition date, the centre will begin to update signage, websites and other facility assets to help residents, local sports clubs, transportation agencies and event promoters adjust to a new name,” said Realstar Group in a recent statement.
Recently, the CAA relocated and renovated its Brampton retail store – at 215 Delta Park Blvd. – so it’s no surprise that the company is making further investments in our growing and urbanizing community.
“The CAA Centre is part of a strategy to provide the 56 million CAA and AAA members across North America with increased access to cultural experiences and benefits beyond roadside assistance,” read the statement. “As part of the deal, CAA members will gain access to special offers, events and unique experiences at the Centre.”
What does the City think of this?
“On behalf of the City and my colleagues on the Council, we welcome CAA’s investment in Brampton. We look forward to many years of working together to bring Bramptonians exciting sporting and cultural experiences,” said Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey. “This arena has been a visible landmark to the Brampton community and surrounding area. It has hosted and supported local sports teams and significant cultural events that showcase the wonderful diversity of our vibrant city.”
It’s true that the Powerade Centre is something of a power centre here in Brampton, hosting hundreds of events every year, including sporting events, concerts, and tradeshows. The Centre is also, of course, home to the ECHL’s Brampton Beast Hockey Club.
“Sports and entertainment venues are the epicentre of a community, so it was important for us to find a partner understanding of the fabric of such a diverse and lively city as Brampton,” said Jonas Prince, Chairman, Realstar Group. “With CAA we have found a dedicated and collaborative partner interested in building a synergistic relationship with our many stakeholders.”
An official celebration and sign-lighting date have not yet been announced. We will update as those details become available.
Over 1.2 million people visit the Powerade Centre every year.
