Brampton youth arrested in carjacking investigation

Investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau have arrested a youth involved in a carjacking in the City of Brampton.

Police say on Tuesday, September 1, 2020, at 10:27 a.m., the victim, a 28-year-old female, was in the driveway of her residence in the area of Castlemore Road and Gardenbrooke Trail in Brampton.

According to police, at this time, the accused and an unknown suspect approached the victim and brandished a knife.

The victim was pushed to the ground and her car keys were taken, police say, before the accused and suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle.  

The victim did not suffer any physical injuries, according to police.

On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, the victim’s vehicle was located abandoned, police say.

On Wednesday, September 9, 2020, investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau conducted a criminal code search warrant at a residence in the area of Castlemore Road and Clarkway Drive in Brampton.

Police say the search warrant resulted in locating the accused within the residence.

According to police, a 17-year-old youth from Brampton has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent and fail to comply with release order.

He was held for a bail hearing and will attend the Ontario Court of Justice.

A general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a Young Person and, therefore, the identity of the Young Persons charged in this investigation is protected.
