Brampton Transit lifting mask mandates this weekend

Brampton Transit users can ride without wearing a mask starting this weekend.
The city made the announcement on Friday that it will lift the mask mandate on Brampton Transit buses and inside terminals at 12:00 a.m. on Saturday (June 11).
The move comes days after Ontario’s chief medical officer of health said most of the province’s remaining masking requirements, including on public transit, would not be renewed.
The City will begin to update and remove all signage that states masks are mandatory starting Saturday and is expected to take several days to complete.
The province said easing the remaining mask restrictions is a response to declining COVID-19 case numbers and high vaccination rates.
Ontario will continue to require masking in long-term care centres and retirement homes, and businesses will still be able to enforce their own masking requirements.
Brampton Transit riders are being asked “to respect those who choose to continue to wear masks,” and the province said residents should continue to wear a mask if they feel it is right for them, are at high risk for severe illness, recovering from COVID-19, have symptoms of the virus or are a close contact of someone with COVID-19.
“Customers are also reminded to stay safe and help protect others by carrying hand sanitizer, washing their hands frequently and staying home and not travelling if feeling unwell,” the city said in a release.
Metrolinx is also doing away with mask requirments on GO Transit and UP Express routes.
