Get ‘winter ready’: What to know for plows and parking ahead of Brampton snow storm
Published January 25, 2023 at 8:56 am
Brampton residents are being warned to take extra precautions on the roads and move vehicles off city streets as crews prepare to deal with a winter storm.
A snowfall warning has been issued for Brampton, Mississauga, Hamilton, and much of the GTA, with Environment Canada expecting a significant snowfall of 15 to 20 cm expected on Wednesday.
There will be reduced visibility in heavy snow with rapidly accumulating snow will make travel difficult. There are also isolated power outages that are possible.
The City is warning drivers to be prepared for bad weather and adjust their driving to changing road conditions, maintain a safe distance between other vehicles, and give extra time to get where you need to go safely.
Street parking is not permitted in Brampton during winter weather events and by-laws will be enforced in order to ensure snowplows, salt trucks, and emergency vehicles can safely pass. Residents could be ticketed or towed for parking on the street while plows are working, so plan ahead.
The City’s snow removal crews hit the roads once 5 cm of snow has accumulated, and residents are instructed to contact 311 if their street has not been cleared of snow within 24 hours since the snowfall ended.
Service requests can also be made on the 311 mobile app, by emailing [email protected], or online.
Bramptonians can use the City’s Plow Tracker on www.brampton.ca/snow and on the Brampton 311 mobile app to see what roads and sidewalks crews have been cleared.
The app can be downloaded from Google Play or the App Store, and residents can use it to check snow maintenance progress, road priorities, and whether a plow is near them so that they can move their vehicles off the road. Service requests can also be submitted through the app.
Snow removal financial assistance is available to eligible seniors and homeowners with physical disabilities. You can learn more by visiting www.brampton.ca.
Here are some tips from the City to be prepared for snow clearing and get “winter ready” in Brampton:
• In case of emergency, be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for at least 72 hours. Prepare a 72-hour safety kit for your home and vehicle.
• Clear sidewalks of ice, snow, and slush promptly after snowfall.
• Parking on streets is not allowed and will be enforced during winter weather events. Please move vehicles to ensure plows, salters and emergency vehicles can safely pass by.
• If it has been more than 24 hours since the snowfall has ended and your street still requires attention, let the City know by calling 311, submitting a service request on the 311 mobile app, emailing [email protected], or visiting www.311brampton.ca.
