A man shot in a Brampton home last night has died.

The investigation into the shooting has now been turned over to homicide detectives of the Peel Regional Police as the search continues for the shooter.

The incident unfolded last night in the basement apartment of a home on Scott St. near Centre St. N. and Queen St. E. just after 10:30 p.m.

The victim was shot several times, according to reports, and taken to a hospital trauma centre where he succumbed to his injuries several hours later.

Initial reports indicate several people may have been at the location at the time, but police say many left the scene.

Those who live in the neighbourhood say the 23-year-old victim had only just moved into the home and that police were called just two days earlier when there was an attempted break-in at the location.
