Although the risk of contracting coronavirus remains low for Region of Peel (Brampton, Mississauga, and Caledon) students, the Peel District School Board is sharing advice from the region on how to best prevent the spread of the virus.

“The outbreak in China is still evolving, however it is important to note that to date there are no reported cases of COVID-19 in the Region of Peel,” the region wrote in a letter to parents and guardians.

“Peel Public Health continues to support Peel residents through providing up to date and credible information. As the situation around the virus is changing, students should stay up to date through trusted online sources including The Ministry of Health website and the Peel Public Health novel Coronavirus page.”

The region says there have been some updated recommendations for individuals travelling from China.

If you’ve travelled from China, you should monitor for symptoms of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) for 14 days after leaving China and contact Peel Public Health for information at 905-799-7700 (Caledon residents should call 905-584-2216).

If you’re feeling well, you do not need to contact public health.

Whether you’re feeling sick or not, if you’ve travelled to Hubei province in the last 14 days:

  • Stay at home and limit your contact with others for 14 days from the date that you left Hubei.
  • Contact Peel Public Health within 24 hours of arriving in Canada at 905-799-7700 (or 905-584-2216 if you live in Caledon)

If you have severe symptoms you should seek medical attention by calling 911. Inform 911 of your symptoms and recent travel history to make sure the right infection prevention and control precautions are taken.
