Brampton's Haviah Mighty has been nominated for Best International Flow at the 2022 BET HipHop Awards.

One of Brampton’s own is getting some international love and recognition with a nomination at the BET HipHop Awards.

Brampton-based Haviah Mighty has been nominated for Best International Flow at the 2022 BET HipHop Awards later this month in Atlanta, Georgia.

Described as having a lightning flow and razor-sharp lyrics, Mighty is a songwriter, vocalist, producer blending the genres of hip-hop, soul, afrobeats and more in her signature style of profound introspection and socio-political critique.

The Brampton native has seen recent success and critical acclaim with her recent releases, like her 2019 album 13th Floor which saw her become the first hip-hop artist and the first Black woman to win Canada’s Polaris Music Prize.

And she again made history earlier this year when she became the first-ever female artist to win Best Rap Album at the Juno Awards for her 2021 album Stock Exchange.

Mighty is currently on tour with shows this month in Los Angeles, London, and København, Denmark to name a few.

The Brampton rapper will be in good company in the Best International Flow category alongside acts from across the globe, including France’s Benjamin Epps, Central Cee and Knucks from the U.K., and Brazil’s Nadia Nakai.

The 2022 BET HipHop Awards run on Sept. 30 on www.BET.com.
