Brampton parking rates going up while free downtown stays extend

The price of parking will be going up in Brampton as the city is looking to encourage residents to use active transportation options or use public transit to get around town.
Brampton City Council considered the change to the city’s parking plan in November, proposing to ditch free one-hour parking downtown and increase fees to $3 per hour, $13.50 per day and $120 per month.
The city had looked at bringing the changes in next year but after hearing from members of the Downtown Brampton BIA council postponed the increase to Jan. 1, 2027 with fees of $2.50 per hour, $11.25 per day and $100 per month.
And while fees will be increasing when the changes are finally introduced, so will the amount of free parking time as the changes will also double downtown free parking from one hour to two.
After the first fee hike, rates will again increase in 2028 to $3 per hour, $13.50 per day and $120 per month and another jump in 2019 to $3.50 per hour, $15 per day and $140 per month.
The city says the changes will improve Brampton’s parking system while encouraging residents to take Brampton Transit or use active transpiration options, like the e-scooter pilot project, rather than drive.
The new Brampton parking plan also includes more resources for the city’s parking enforcement team, increasing the number of electric vehicle charging stations and an updated payment system for city-owned parking garages.
