A Brampton park will be named in honour of Jeffrey Northrup, the Toronto police detective-constable killed in the line of duty last month.

Northrup, 55, was a long-time Brampton resident who was heavily involved in local amateur sports as well as the Scouting movement.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said, initially he was asked by investigators to keep quiet about where Northrup lived as no one was yet sure whether or not the incident that claimed his life was targeted or random.

“Now that we have found out it was an isolated incident, it is now appropriate for us to celebrate the late officer’s love for our city and to celebrate his life,” said Brown at Wednesday’s city council meeting of the 31-year Toronto Police Services veteran.

The married father of three dedicated much of his personal time to the Special Olympics program in the community.
