Brampton pair added to list of people charged in New Year’s Day Melancthon shootings

Another two people from Brampton have been charged in connection to a possible New Year’s Day shooting gallery in a rural area north of the city.

Members of the Dufferin OPP charged 17 people – including 10 from Brampton – after officers were called to a property some 70 kilometers north of Brampton in Melancthon Township on Jan. 1 after receiving a noise complaint of gunshots.

Police reportedly said that a field was being used as a firing range, and that the New Year’s Day incident wasn’t the first time officers had recieved complaints regarding the property, according to the Orangeville Banner.

On Tuesday, police said they charged another two people from Brampton after executing a search warrant at a home in Brampton.

Another three firearms were seized during the search, brining the total number of guns recovered as a result of the investigation up to 11 according to police.

While most of the charged individuals were from Brampton and other parts of Ontario, one of the accused is from Montreal and another is from as far away as Calgary.

Amandeep Singh, 25, of Brampton has been charged with:

  • Careless Use of a Firearm.
  • Careless Storage of a Firearm.
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.
  • Possession of a restricted Weapon Obtained by Commission of an Offence.
  • Trafficking Firearms.
  • Transfer Firearm without Authority.

Jagmohan Singh, 30, of Brampton has been charged with:

  • Careless Storage of a Firearm.
  • Trafficking Firearms.
  • Transfer Firearm without Authority.
  • Fail to Report Lost or Stolen Firearm.

The accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville in March.
