Brampton’s own Cassie Campbell-Pascall will be bringing her Gold Medal-winning expertise to the inaugural season of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL).

The three-time Olympic Gold medal winner has signed on to the role of Special Advisor, bringing her decades of experience and passion for hockey to the PWHL.

Campbell-Pascall broke the news during her final broadcast on Sportsnet’s Monday Night Hockey and called the new position an opportunity to “continue to have an impact on the women’s game.”

“I’m extremely pleased to take an active advisory role in the advancement of a top pro league that is so full of promise,” she said in a statement.

The first season of the PWHL kicks off in January with yet-unnamed teams in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, New York, Boston and Minnesota. Canadian players dominated the final rosters with a total of 90 out of the 157 players hailing from Canada.

Campbell-Pascall won three Olympic Gold Medals for Canada and racked up dozens of other accolades before retiring from professional play. She was also the first women’s hockey player inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.

She has since carved out a successful career in sports broadcasting, appearing on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada as well as ESPN and TSN, and has held executive roles with Hockey Canada and the Canadian Olympic Committee.

There’s even a community centre in Brampton named after the former Team Canada captain.

“Cassie is an excellent addition to the PWHL and one that we’re all thrilled about,” PWHL senior VP of Hockey Operations Jayna Hefford said in a statement. “In the years I’ve known Cassie—including many as teammates on the ice—her leadership, passion and knowledge of the game have always stood out. Her impact on women’s hockey cannot be overstated and we know her expertise will help propel the PWHL to success.”

All team home openers will be played within the first two weeks of January.
