The City of Brampton is raising awareness on community safety this summer, as they are launching several ‘Coyote Talks’ events to help those living in the Brampton area better manage the event of a coyote sighting.
The series is hosted by Brampton Animal Services’ Wildlife Response Team and is purpose-built to provide all who attend the knowledge required to keep themselves and other animals safe during a potential coyote encounter.
Topics that will be discussed will include coyote mating seasons, dennings seasons and pupping seasons.
Additional topics also include:
- Identifying a coyote
- Brampton-area coyote habits
- Sharing outdoor environments with coyotes,
- Safety tips for a coyote encounter
- Keeping coyotes outside of residential properties
- Animal Services intervention
- Additional tools and resources for coexistence with coyotes
There will be three separate Coyote Talks seminars that will take place in the Brampton-ara this summer — dates and times are as follows:
Date | Time | Location |
Friday, June 28 | 7 pm – 8:30 pm | Cassie Campbell Community Centre |
Thursday, July 18 | 6 pm – 7:30 pm | Save Max Sports Centre |

On top of these monthly seminars, the City of Brampton also has a digital Coyote Sighting Map, designed to help Brampton residents keep track of ongoing coyote activity. Additional information provided by the city also indicates that Brampton Animal Services is always on standby to help residents deal with coyote-related incidents.
According to city officials, in the event of a coyote sighting, Brampton residents should:
- Remain calm
- Avoid running away
- Make your body large and get loud:
- Call 9-1-1: only in an emergency or 3-1-1 to report a sighting
Additional information on the Coyote Talks series can be found on the city’s official website.
