During an exclusive interview with Khaled Iwamura of Insauga.com, Brampton mayor Patrick Brown suggested the most important issue for the city in the federal election is the fate of the city’s historic downtown.

“We want support for taking the LRT right into the downtown GO Train,” said Brown.

The Light Rapid Transit line is currently undergoing construction on Hurontario St. in Mississauga and will work its way north over the next few years.

“City staff has identified the preferred route, which is a tunneled LRT throught the heritage area of the downtown, so that would be one the largest ticket items.”

Brown promised a list of five asks the city will have of federal parties that will be released as soon as next week.

“The federal election is a great opportunity to have discussions about what each political party can do to help move the city forward.”
