Brampton man arrested after catalytic converters cut out from vehicles

Around 2:00 a.m. on Monday, February 24, officers were proactively checking parked vehicles in the area of Parkdale Avenue North and Barton Street East in Hamilton.

“At that time they overheard the sound of powers tools being operated,” police say. “With businesses in the area closed, they investigated the sounds which lead them to a nearby parking lot.”

Officers reportedly observed a male walking away from a group of parked cars and holding a bag of tools.

He was arrested without incident.

“A search of the immediate area resulted in police locating two catalytic converters and the identification of the vehicles involved,” police say.

The 32 year old Brampton man is charged with Theft Under $5000, Possession of stolen property under $5000, Possession of burglary tools, and Mischief under $5000.

Police say he had been recently arrested for a similar offence.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the John Sopinka Courthouse later today.
