Brampton is known for its diverse community, and the City is planning to celebrate it with numerous events throughout the summer.
Some events include flag-raisings, traditional cuisine and cultural performances. Instead of a single CeleBrampton event in June, Brampton is hosting new and expanded events throughout the year to honour diversity.
This is a great chance for residents to learn about other cultures in the city.
Events taking place throughout June and July are:
Philippine Heritage Month
On June 13 from 5 pm to 8 pm at City Hall Atrium, residents can sample traditional cuisine, including the popular dessert Halo-Halo, and enjoy live performances at this event. Residents and visitors are also invited to Ken Whillans Square on June 11 at 9 am, for the raising of the flag Philippino flag.
Portuguese Heritage Month
Attend a flag-raising with cultural cuisine and entertainment from 3 pm to 4 pm, followed by the Lusofonia Festival in Garden Square from 4 to 11 pm on June 15. The festivities continue from 12 pm to 9 pm on June 16.
Farmers’ Market Opening Day
The Brampton Farmers’ Market season will start June 15 from 7 am to 1 pm on Main Street and Queen. The opening will have live music by local performers, family activities and gardening tips from Frankie Flowers. Residents and visitors are invited to pick up fresh local produce and handmade goods every Saturday morning until October 12.
National Indigenous Peoples Day
On June 21, residents can Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day at Garden Square with performance, dance, storytelling and more, presented by The Indigenous Network. A ceremony and community performance take place from 12:30 pm to 2 pm, with live performances by DJ Classic Roots and iskwē from 6 pm to 10 pm.
Take part in Brampton’s biggest festival of the year on Canada’s birthday! Enjoy fun, family-friendly activities including inflatables, international gourmet food vendors and a spectacular fireworks show, presented by Tim Hortons. Stay tuned for the official announcement of this year’s live entertainment lineup. Events will start at 12 pm until 10 pm at Chinguacousy Park.
Pride in the Square │ July 7 │ 2 to 9 pm │ Garden Square
Celebrate Brampton’s vibrant LGBTTIQQ2SA communities at Garden Square on July 7 from 2 pm to 9 pm. Residents can enjoy art, performance and programming for all ages. Browse a variety of community exhibitors and enjoy live entertainment from afternoon to evening, featuring headliner Too Attached, and artists Fay & Fluffy, Fly Lady Di and Quarterback.
“Brampton offers an amazing variety of festivals and events for residents and visitors to enjoy,” said Mayor Patrick Brown. “Discover Brampton’s diversity, enjoy great food, see award-winning entertainers and up-and-coming local artists, and celebrate all that our Mosaic city has to offer.”
