Brampton has already begun honouring Canada’s veterans and military service members ahead of Remembrance Day later this month.

A flag raising at Brampton City Hall on Friday (Oct. 28) marked the start of The Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Campaign this year, with funds raised in support of Canada’s serving and retired veterans, and their families.

There will be a Remembrance Day service at the Chinguacousy Park Memorial Plaza on Sunday (Nov. 6) at 10:50 a.m., followed by a parade which will march to Central Park Drive South to West on Queen Street.

A candlelight vigil is also planned for 7:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Veteran Statue in Gage Park.

Then on Friday, Nov. 11, there will be a sunrise Remembrance Day service at the Meadowvale Cemetery Main Chapel at 7:55 a.m., followed by a Remembrance Day Parade and service 10:30 a.m. at the Memorial Square Cenotaph in Ken Whillans Square.

At the conclusion of the service, the parade Commander will march down Wellington Street and end with a reception at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 15.

“On behalf of the City of Brampton, we thank all veterans that have served and those that continue to serve our country,” Mayor Patrick Brown said in a release, encouraging Bramptonians to purchase a poppy to raise funds and honour veterans “and those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
