Brampton is celebrating the achievements of a 34-year veteran of Peel Regional Police with a Key to the City.

On Tuesday, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown presented Peel police Dep. Chief Marc Andrews with one of the city’s highest honours.

Current and retired members of the force came out to The Rose Theater on Tuesday as Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown presented Peel police Dep. Chief Marc Andrews with one of the city’s highest honours.

“His unwavering commitment to safety, integrity and community partnership has not only kept our residents safe but has also forged enduring bonds of trust and respect,” the mayor said of Andrews and his decades-long career in Brampton.

“His love for Brampton and dedication to keeping us safe is extraordinary. He is a role model for so many in our city.”

First joining PRP in 1990, Andrews was already a commissioned officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, serving with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and doing a tour with United Nations Peacekeeping operations in Cyprus.

Since then he has worked as a uniformed constable at PRP’s 12 Division, a homicide investigator, duty inspector and now deputy chief. Andrews said he’s grateful that Brampton has recognized his ”dedication and commitment to this beautiful city” with the symbolic award.

“As a resident of Brampton and serving the community for 34 years with Peel Regional Police, I truly care about this community and the well-being of residents,” he said.

Other notable Key to the City recipients include Gurbax Singh Malhia (the first turban-wearing Sikh elected to the House of Commons) and late Premier Bill Davis.
