After being closed for roughly two months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, production is set to resume this week at the Fiat Chrysler assembly plant in Brampton.
According to an update from Unifor Local 1285, Skilled Trades and Team Leaders have been recalled to ensure the plant is ready to run on Tuesday, May 19.
The facility will resume for only one shift on Tuesday, with its second shift scheduled for Monday, May 25.
“It’s been a long two months inside the plant without the membership in the building,” said Ardis Snow, Brampton Assembly Plant Chairperson. “I look forward to everyone returning. These are uncertain times we are living in. We will do everything we can to help the membership when they return.”
The Brampton plant employs over 3,200 employees and oversees production of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) says it has been taking steps to ensure the safety and health of its employees as it begins to reopen its North American manufacturers.
Steps include cleaning and disinfecting FCA facilities and ensuring its workstations adhere to the six-foot social distancing guidelines.
“Above everything else, our top priority has always been to do what is right for our employees,” said FCA CEO Mike Manley.
“We have worked closely with the unions to establish protocols that will ensure our employees feel safe at work and that every step possible has been taken to protect them.”
