The wait is over for Brampton commuters using Bramalea GO.

Metrolinx just announced the brand-new passenger pick-up, drop-off and surface parking lots at the Bramalea GO station are now  ready to use. There was a temporary pick-up and drop-off space in the south parking lot off Advance Blvd.

As one of the busiest stations on the Kitchener Line, Metrolinx has been working on major upgrades at Bramalea GO to serve more passengers to prepare for two-way, all-day service set to be introduced in coming years.

In June, the new bus loop behind the station building partially opened for GO and Brampton Transit buses.

The project also includes improved pedestrian and cyclist access with a new pedestrian/cyclist path from Steeles Avenue, which will lead directly into the station. A covered bicycle parking area is also part of the plans.

A new parking garage was added earlier in the project.

Other parts of the project include moving the Steeles Avenue entrance/exit to the station to create bus-only transit lanes, which will separate transit from cars, boost efficiency and enhance safety.

The upgraded station is also going to feature enhanced accessibility and community connections, with a new accessible station building, two accessible pedestrian tunnels connecting to the train platforms at both the station building and the west end of the platforms, and upgraded elevators to bring customers to platform level.

The renovated north and south platforms both feature new snow-melting systems, and have been extended to accommodate larger, 12-car trains. Canopies have also been added over the platforms, with more shelters to keep customers dry during inclement weather.

The improvements are expected to be finished this summer.
