A change in boundaries could see a reshaping of the ward map in Brampton in time for the next municipal election in 2026.

The city has proposed two scenarios for change and wants the public to provide input on what best represents voters in the years ahead.

A survey is available online to gather information which can be found here. The survey period runs until Nov. 20.

The city says the survey is important as it will help understand how the residents view the proposed realignment options. This will assist city council in making an informed decision when considering which realignment option to adopt.

As well, the last of the public information sessions takes place Nov. 13 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Century Gardens Recreation Centre, 340 Vodden Street East.

The boundary review comes as the city’s growth continues and as the population demographic shifts into new areas. According to the city, these factors have resulted in a population imbalance in some of the existing wards, and the review and possible realignments aim to continue equitable wards with balanced representation.

In one of the options, the size of Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 8 are increased while Ward 6 is reduced. In another option, Wards 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8 are increased, Ward 9 remains the same and Wards 6 and 10 are decreased.

Any changes to a municipality’s ward boundaries need to be on the books by December 2025 and the city says it needs feedback from residents before moving ahead with the tweaks.

The city has produced a video to help explain the process.
