Boozy driver 3 times over the limit busted north of Brampton

Finding a vehicle stopped at a greenlight led police to arrest a driver with more than three times the legal limit for alcohol in his system north of Brampton.

The traffic stop started when officer with the Caledon OPP say they were patrolling Highway 10 when they came across a driver stopped at a green light at the intersection of Old School Road.

After pulling over the driver in a traffic stop police say they discovered the 50-year-old male was impaired by alcohol.

The driver had a blood alcohol concentration more than three times over the legal limit, police say.

The 50-year-old driver from Dundalk was arrested and charged with operation while impaired – alcohol, and operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

The accused was also hit with a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to make a court appearance on Jan. 2.

With the holiday season approaching, the OPP and other police forces across Ontario are running Festive Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere chaeckstops until the start of the new year.

Drivers can face charges if their blood alcohol concentration is 0.08 or more, while the warn range is a blood alcohol concentration between 0.05 and 0.079.

Police agencies across Ontario are also conducting mandatory breathalyzer alcohol screening at every traffic stop on GTA highways, including the QEW and Highways 403 and 401.

Police say anyone who suspects a driver of operating while impaired by drugs or alcohol is encouraged to call 911 and report it when safe to do so.
