RECALLS: Blinds, lawn mowers, sauces and chocolates recalled from stores in Ontario

As additional recalls come to light, residents of Ontario are cautioned to examine their homes for the following items, as they carry the potential for mild to severe health risks and injuries.


White Horizontal Fauxwood 2” Blind Safecord

White Horizontal Fauxwood 2” Blinds Safecord

The recalled product features V1 Fauxwood blinds with a wand tilter and cordless mechanism and is available in the snow white smooth finish.

Health Canada has concluded that the blinds subject to the recall fail to comply with the Corded Window Coverings Regulations. 

The product is found to form loops exceeding 44 centimetres, posing a risk where young children may inadvertently entangle themselves in cords.

Health Canada suggests opting for cordless window coverings.

The company reported that 120 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between November 2022 to October 2023.

Risks: Potential entanglement and strangulation and death hazard.

What you should do: Stop using the recalled product immediately and reach out to HT Blinds for necessary repairs.

As of November 8, 2023, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.


Panache brand Tikka Masala Cooking Sauce 

Panache - Tikka Masala Cooking Sauce - 400 mL - front

The cooking sauce in the 400 millilitre  size, identified with the UPC 6 23682 12350 0 and a best before date of BB/MA 2023 DE 10, is subject to the recall.

The product contains cashew, a component not disclosed on the label.

Risks: Serious or life threatening reaction to individuals allergic.

What you should do: Individuals who have an allergy to the ingredients, should not consume and throw the item away or return to the location from where it was purchased.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is currently undertaking a food safety investigation that could result in the recall of additional products.

The CFIA is ensuring that the industry is effectively removing the recalled products from the market.

As of November 19, the company has received one reported reaction associated with the consumption of this product.


HO-YA brand Naturally Brewed Soy Sauce

HO-YA Soy Sauce

The items are available as a twin package in the 900 millimetre sizes. The product bears the LOT# SP0003 with the UPCs 83204 00536 7 and 8 83204 00562 6. The following best before dates are part of the recall.

  • 06. JN. 2025
  • 07. JN. 2025
  • 25. JN. 2025
  • 26. JN. 2025

According to Health Canada the item may contain a microbial contamination resulting in bursting lids.

Risks: Physical injuries.

What you should do: Individuals are asked to not consume and dispose of the product.

As of November 19, the company has received no reported injuries or reactions associated with the consumption of this product.


PC brand Milk Chocolate Covered Raisins

PC - Milk Chocolate Covered Raisins - 908 g - Front

The milk chocolate covered raisins is available in the 908 grams size, identified with the UPC 0 60383 98203 4 and a best before date of 2024 JL 08, are subject to the recall.

The item is being pulled from stores, due to the potential presence of almonds— which has not been declared on the label.

Risks: Serious or life threatening reaction to individuals allergic.

What you should do: Individuals who have an allergy to the ingredients, should not consume and throw the item away or return to the location from where it was purchased.

As of November 19, the company has received one reported reaction associated with the consumption of this product.

The exhaust pipe has the potential to fracture, leading to damage to the unit, particularly in the presence of dry cuttings or spilled fuel.

The company reported that 102 units of the affected products were sold in Canada between November 2015 to June 2019.

Risks: Posing fire and burn hazards.

What you should do: Consumers are advised to cease the use of the affected mowers promptly and get in touch with DR Power Equipment.

The company is offering a prorated refund or credit equivalent to the prorated refund amount, which can be applied toward the purchase of a new DR Power product.

The prorated refund or credit will be calculated based on the unit’s age. DR Power will be reaching out directly to all known consumers.

As of October 27, 2023, the company has received no reports of injuries or incidents in Canada.
