One of the largest Ribfests held in the province has been cancelled.
The third annual Etobicoke Ribfest 2024, which was scheduled to take place this weekend (July 19-21) at Colonel Samuel Smith Park, has been called off because of “last minute” requirements by the City of Toronto, say organizers.
The City, says organizers, requested that in order to protect the grass from potential damage caused by the food trucks, they needed to place truck matting over the entire grass area.
Something event organizers say is “nearly impossible.”
“Despite our best efforts to offer alternative solutions with these new regulations, the time frame and logistical challenges presented have made it impossible for us to meet these requirements and proceed with the event as planned,” Rick Brooks, a festival organizer and member of the Ontario Festival Group, wrote in a letter to the community and festival supporters
“We understand the disappointment this news brings to our vendors, sponsors, and the many attendees who were looking forward to enjoying this annual celebration of food and community.”
The Lakeshore Ribfest says it shares in the disappointment and are committed to finding a solution that will allow them to hold the event in the future at a nearby venue.
“We appreciate your understanding and continued support as we work through these challenges,” said Brooks.
