When Vuong Tran realized he and his two family members had won $1 million in a recent Lotto 6/49 draw, he called them right away to share the good news.

However, after that, the Mississauga man and his two co-winners in the July 26 Encore draw decided to keep news of the big win quiet for a while.

The trio’s ticket matched all seven Encore numbers in exact order to win the $1 million prize.

Cuong Le and Ha Trinh, both of Toronto, are the other family members to share in the win with Tran.

“We never told anyone because we wanted to surprise our family when we had the money in our hand,” Tran said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto with his two family members to collect their winnings.

The three winners, who say they always play Lotto 6/49 as a group, added that they don’t have any major plans for the money just yet. They say they’re “letting reality set in.”

Recalling the moment he realized they had won big, Tran said he scanned the ticket about 20 times before he could believe it.

“Then I called the other group members,” he said.

“That was the best phone call I ever got,” added Trinh.

Le was pleased to receive the good news as well.

“I was so happy; that was the best day of my life,” said Le.

The winning ticket was purchased at Mr. Convenience, on Pickwick Drive in Mississauga.
