All benefit cheques coming January 2025 to Canada and Ontario residents

The holidays can be tough and funds can run out quickly.
Some Ontario and Canadian residents should receive benefit cheques or payments in January that could help cover Christmas spending.
In many cases, it is important to file an income tax return to be eligible for the benefits. Learn more about how to apply for benefits here.
Here are all the benefit payments expected for January:
Ontario Trillium Benefit
The Ontario Trillium Benefit, disbursed on a monthly basis, includes the Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, the Northern Ontario Energy Credit and the Ontario Sales Tax Credit.
The next payment for eligible residents is Jan. 10.
Canada Carbon Rebate
The next payment is Jan. 15.
GST/HST refund
The goods and services tax/harmonized sales tax (GST/HST) credit is a tax-free quarterly payment that helps individuals and families with low and modest incomes offset the GST or HST that they pay. Annual amounts vary from $496 for single people and $650 for couples and an additional $171 per child.
The refunds are paid quarterly and the next payment is Jan. 3.
Child tax benefit
The Canada child benefit is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency. It is a tax-free monthly payment made to eligible families to help with the cost of raising children under 18 years of age.
The next payment is Jan. 20.
Advanced Canada workers benefit
The Canada Workers Benefit is a refundable tax credit to help individuals and families who are working and earning a low income. The amount is gradually reduced if your adjusted net income is more than $24,975. No basic amount is paid if your adjusted net income is more than $35,095.
The maximum basic amount is $1,518 for single people and $2,616 for families. There is an additional disability supplement.
The next payment dates is Jan. 10.
Canadian Pension Plan and Old Age Security
The Old Age Security pension is a monthly payment you can get if you are 65 and older. In most cases, Service Canada will be able to automatically enrol residents. Amounts depend on income. The maximum amount for those ages 65 to 74 is $727.67 and $800.44 for those 75 years old and older.
The Canada Pension Plan retirement pension is a monthly, taxable benefit that replaces part of your income when you retire.
The payment for both pensions is Jan. 29.
Veteran disability pension
The veteran disability pension is a tax-free monthly payment that supports veterans and service members with service-related injuries or illnesses.
Eligibility includes Canadian Armed Forces members, RCMP members, and Second World War or Korean War veterans, including some who served in the Second World War. Recipients can choose either Pain and Suffering Compensation—a lifetime monthly or lump sum payment—or a Disability Pension with added support for dependents.
This payment should arrive on Jan. 30
