Those looking for a bit more cash this month might want to check their mailbox or bank account.
The Ontario Trillium Benefit cheque is slated to arrive today (Nov. 10), according to the federal government.
The Ontario Trillium Benefit is the combined payment of the Ontario energy and property tax credit, the Northern Ontario energy credit, and the Ontario sales tax credit.
The Ontario energy and property tax credit helps low- to moderate-income Ontario residents with the sales tax on energy and property taxes.
The Northern Ontario energy credit helps low- to moderate-income Northern Ontario residents with the higher energy costs they face living in the north.
And the Ontario sales tax credit is a tax-free payment for people with low to moderate income to provide relief for the sales tax they pay.
To get this benefit, residents needed to complete their income tax return the previous year. People don’t need to apply — the Canada Revenue Agency will use the information from your 2022 return to determine your eligibility and entitlement.
The amount of the benefit depends on how much you earn and how many dependents you have.
The Ontario Trillium Benefit payments are usually divided into 12 payments issued around the 10th of each month — including today (Nov. 10). The last payment of the year is Dec. 8.
The funds will be deposited in your bank account if you have set up direct deposit. Otherwise, people who qualify should get a cheque.
