Back-to-school backpack drive helps parents prepare for new school year in Brampton

Getting ready for a new school year can be a stressful time for parents, but a group of politically-minded youth in Brampton want to help take some of the financial burden out of the equation with a back-to-school backpack drive.
Summer may still be here but the new school year is right around the corner. And a new school year often means a requirement for new school supplies from pencils and notebooks to calculators and of course, backpacks.
To help parents prepare, the Brampton West Youth Council (BWYC) and MPP Amarjot Sandhu are holding a back-to-school backpack drive.
“Please come and donate a school bag at my office…or give us a call at 905-595-1532 and we will pick it up,” Sandhu said in a video message on social media promoting the charity drive.
Hello Brampton West! This week my youth council, the #BWYC is hosting a back to school Backpack Drive for the upcoming school year! Please come to my office located at 10 Gillingham Drive suite 309 or call 905-595-1532 to make a donation today. pic.twitter.com/eEtHkRxEJV

Youth councils are a way for young people to get involved in the political process and give input to politicians, and the BWYC has been involved with local charities and has held back-to-school drives in previous years.
“As we go back to school please donate and make a difference to those in need, your donation can make a big difference,” the BWYC said on Instagram.
Donations can be made by dropping off backpacks at Sandhu’s office in Brampton located at 10 Gillingham Dr. Suite 309. You can also call 905-595-1532 to arrange to have backpacks picked up by volunteers if you are unable to make the trip in person.
