Axe attack in Pickering sends teen to hospital with serious injuries

A brawl among teenagers in Pickering resulted in one combatant facing aggravated assault charges after another teen was struck with an axe.
Durham Police responded to a disturbance call Saturday night near Liverpool Road and Highway 2, where they found the wounded victim and had him transported to a Toronto trauma centre with serious injuries.
A large group of teenagers had dispersed before police arrived just before 8 p.m. with the suspect in the attack also fleeing the scene.
Two days later officers from the West Division Criminal Investigations Branch executed a search warrant at a house in Pickering and took a 15-year-old boy into custody without incident.
The teen is charged with aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon in a crime. He was held for a bail hearing.
