Attempted murder charge in Brampton intimate partner violence case

Police have charged a 40-year-old man with attempted murder in relation to the shooting of a woman in Brampton nearly two weeks ago.
Peel Regional Police has said it received report of a shooting in the Candy Cres. / Major Williams Sharpe Dr. of Brampton just before 10 a.m. on Jan. 20. The responding officer located a woman who had been shot. The shooting victim was taken to a hospital with a trauma centre, where her physical injuries were deemed to be non-life threatening.
The police told the public that weekend that Orane Byron was a person of interest in the shooting. Peel police also say its intimate partner violence investigators took over the case.
Byron was also wanted on an arson charge in relation to an incident that occurred in Shelburne, Ont., on Jan. 21.
Wednesday, Byron was arrested and charged in relation to the shooting investigation. He faces a total of 10 criminal counts:
- Attempted murder
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammunition
- Discharge of firearm with intent
- Pointing firearm
- Possession of dangerous weapons
- Careless storage of firearm
- Aggravated Assault
- Possession of Firearm contrary to court order
