A Brampton man previously convicted on firearms offences has been charged with attempted murder after police say an altercation escalated into a shooting last week.

Around 2:00 p.m. on July 4, Peel Regional Police say there was “an altercation” between two men outside a plaza in the area of Sandalwood Pkwy. and Richvale Dr. in Brampton.

That’s when police say at least one shot was fired and a 24-year-old man from Brampton was injured.

Both the victim and the shooter then fled the area in separate vehicles and the victim came to a local hospital where it was determined he had suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The shooting suspect was identified by police as 24-year-old Andre Slack of Brampton, who was arrested on July 6 and charged with several offences; including attempted murder, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and two counts of possession of a firearm contrary to order.

Police say Slack has “an extensive criminal history,” including two convictions for unauthorized possession of a firearm, drug trafficking, robbery and break-and-enter.

The accused was held for a bail hearing and attended court in Brampton, and none of the allegations have been proven in court.
