Assault leads to firearm, drug charges for Mississauga man

An investigation into an assault has led to firearm and drug charges for a 32-year-old Mississauga man.

Officers from the Peel Regional Police Intimate Partner Violence Unit (IPV) made the arrest Friday (Oct. 25) after an investigation into an assault incident related to intimate partner violence on Friday.

“During the investigation, officers gathered information suggesting that the suspect was in possession of a firearm,” said Peel police.

The suspect was located and arrested.

Police would then obtain a search warrant at a residence near Hurontario Street and Eglington Avenue in Mississauga and would seize a loaded Springfield Armory Hellcat handgun.

The 32-year-old Mississauga man is charged with:

-Possession of a firearm knowing it is unauthorized

-Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition

-Breach of Prohibition Order

-Assault

-Possession of a controlled substance
