An arrest has been made after nearly $260,000 in liquor was stolen in a series of LCBO thefts in Mississauga, Brampton and across the Greater Toronto Area.

Peel Regional Police said the thefts took place between October 2023 and last month. Of the goods stolen, items valued at $160,000 were taken from LCBO stores in Mississauga and Brampton, they added.

Investigators, who two weeks ago released surveillance video footage in seeking the public’s help in the case, arrested a man on Sunday.

Awil Hassan Abdi, 38, of no fixed address, was arrested with help from the LCBO Resource Protection Team, police said.

He’s charged with three counts of theft over $5,000, 16 counts of theft under $5,000 and breach of probation.

“Abdi was on a probation order for similar theft- and robbery-related offences at the time the crimes were committed,” police said.

He was held for a bail hearing.
