A 72-year-old Mississauga man faces charges in connection with a hit-and-run in the city’s west end last month in which an 80-year-old pedestrian was struck and seriously hurt.
Major Collision Bureau investigators with Peel Regional Police made the arrest on Dec. 3, charging the man in relation to the Nov. 8 incident.
Police say an 80-year-old man was crossing mid-block on Creditview Road, just south of Eglinton Avenue West, when he was struck by a white SUV shortly before 5:30 p.m.
“The driver of the SUV stopped briefly and then fled the scene in the vehicle,” police said in a news release on Thursday.
The victim was transported to a trauma centre with serious injuries as a result of the collision, police added.
A “thorough investigation” led police to the arrest and recovery of a vehicle believed to have been involved in the hit-and-run.
Police also noted members of the public who came forward with information aided in the investigation.
Theodoros Diamantouros, 72, of Mississauga, is charged with failure to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm.
He’s scheduled to appear in Brampton court at a later date.
