It was a long trip down Brock Street for the crew of an armoured truck early this morning after repeated attempts to rob it via ramming ended with a man in custody on multiple charges.

Durham Police say the crew of the armoured truck was conducting business in Brooklin at the the Brooklin Town Centre plaza at Baldwin Street and Winchester Road in Whitby’s north end just after one a.m. Friday when the truck was intentionally rammed by an SUV.

The driver of the SUV  – which was later discovered to be stolen – followed the truck down Baldwin all the way to the Whitby GO station at the other end of town, making further attempts to ram the armoured truck along the way.

Police were on the scene at the train station and the suspect attempted to escape but his SUV was successfully blocked by police vehicles.

The suspect, a 28-year-old man of no fixed address, was taken into custody without incident.

No physical injuries were sustained during the incident.
