Three teens from Peel, including a 15-year-old boy from Brampton and a 16-year-old of Mississauga, are each facing more than a dozen charges after two armed home invasions earlier this week in Toronto’s west end.

A 19-year-old Brampton man is also among the trio charged in connection with the violent overnight incidents, including one in which gunshots were fired and another in which homeowners who had been awakened were threatened with a gun, according to Toronto Police.

Investigators said three suspects were arrested on Wednesday by members of the Provincial Carjacking Joint Task Force, a law enforcement team comprised of officers from across the GTA, including members of Peel Regional Police, formed last fall to combat an increase in violent crime related to car thefts.

Two days earlier, in the early morning hours on Monday, a pair of west Toronto homes in the same neighbourhood near the lake were targeted by three culprits about 30 minutes apart.

In the first home invasion, police say three people targeted a home in the area of South Kingsway and The Queensway just after 3:30 a.m.

Police allege the culprits smashed the rear kitchen glass door to gain entry to the home and, once inside, one person armed with a gun threatened the homeowners.

One of the victims called police and the intruders fled the scene.

Some 30 minutes later, just before 4:10 a.m., officers responded to a home invasion call near Royal York Road and The Queensway, police said in a news release on Friday.

In that incident, according to police, the homeowner confronted three suspects, two of whom were carrying guns.

“The victim heard one of the firearms being discharged,” police said, adding the intruders quickly fled the scene.

Shell casings and bullet holes were located in the walls of the home the following day, investigators noted.

Jonathan Khan, 19, of Brampton, a 15-year-old boy, also of Brampton, and a 16-year-old boy, of Mississauga, each face numerous weapons and other charges including robbery with a firearm/weapon, break-and-enter, discharging a firearm, utter threats and possession of firearms.

The two younger suspects face two counts each of robbery while Khan is charged with four counts of robbery.

All three appeared in Toronto court on Thursday.

The investigation continues.
