Police have issued a public safety alert in the wake of “multiple carjacking incidents” Tuesday morning in and around Mississauga and Toronto.
According Peel Regional Police, who issued the alert shortly after 10 a.m., they’re on the hunt for a culprit who’s considered to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached by members of the public.
The last known location of the gunman was in the Highway 401 and Dixon Road area of Toronto near Pearson Airport in Mississauga.
Ontario Provincial Police also issued a public advisory, noting the man was last seen at Highway 427 and Fasken Drive in Etobicoke, also near Pearson.
Peel police didn’t include in their alert any details of the carjackings nor did they say if there’s any connection between their investigation and major traffic backups caused by a Tuesday morning collision on Highway 401 eastbound near the airport.
The culprit is described as Black, 5-foot-10, 25 to 35 years old, with braided hair. He was last spotted wearing jeans, a blue-and-grey T-shirt, and white-and-black running shoes.
Anyone who sees the man is urged to call 911.
