It’s always important to be prepared in case of an emergency in Brampton.
It’s always important to be prepared in case of an emergency in Brampton. May 6-12 marks Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week this year, and there are events taking place across the city to keep residents aware and informed of what to do incase of an emergency.
EP Week officially kicked off on May 5 at Bramalea City Centre in Brampton. Here’s what’s happening next:
- May 8 – presentation to students at Fletcher’s Meadow Secondary School from 12:45 – 1:45 p.m.
- May 9 – public education booth at Brampton Civic Hospital from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- May 10 – presentation to senior citizens at Grace Court from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 p.m.
- May 11 – public education booth at Peel Memorial Centre from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
This week is not just limited to Brampton – federal, provincial, and municipal governments all participate in EP Week activities, as do first responders, first responders, emergency management officials, non-governmental organizations and others.
According to the City of Brampton, this year’s theme is “Be Emergency Ready-Stay Connected.”
“Brampton Emergency Management Office (BEMO) staff together with Brampton Community Emergency Response Volunteers (CERV) provide information to the public about the risks in the community, and promote personal preparedness and some of the work that local governments do in planning for emergencies,” reads a recent release from the city.
These outreach events aim to focus on how to deal with an emergency, emergency prepardness kits, and demonstrations, Q&A periods, and even giveaways.
According to the province, some of the most likely emergencies in our area include freezing rain/ice storms, epidemics, pandemics, extreme temperatures such as cold waves, and tornadoes.
BEMO advises every resident to plan for emergencies by having a fully stocked 72-hour emergency kit, according to the emergency preparedness guide, which covers how to be prepared for an emergency in Brampton.
Planning for an emergency might be the most important part of being prepared – you can find out more at the events listed above all week!
