Get ready for a wintery weekend as more snow is set to blanket parts of Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning that could bring up to 10 cm of snow beginning Saturday afternoon and continuing into the evening.

The following areas in southern Ontario are under the advisory:

  • Pickering
  • Ajax
  • Whitby
  • Oshawa
  • Clarington
  • Bowmanville
  • Peterborough
  • Cobourg

The weather agency warns that bursts of heavy snow could reduce visibility and create hazardous driving conditions.

Lake effect snow bands off Georgian Bay and Lake Huron are expected to reach far inland, with the heaviest accumulations likely north of Highway 401 and along or northwest of Highway 115 and Highway 7.

Motorists should be prepared for quickly changing weather and poor visibility. If visibility is reduced while driving, authorities recommend slowing down, watching for tail lights ahead, and being prepared to stop.

Residents in the area are encouraged to stay informed by monitoring Environment Canada’s updates for any changes or new developments in the forecast.
