Canadians across the country can expect to receive an additional benefit cheque in the coming days.
The Canada Carbon Rebate, previously called the Climate Action Incentive Payment, is a federal initiative designed to help Canadians manage the financial impact of carbon pricing.
The program returns funds to residents in provinces where the federal carbon tax applies, including Ontario, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Most households receive more back than they pay in carbon taxes with additional top-ups available for those living in rural areas.
For those who received their first payment in April, the second installment will be sent out on Oct. 15. The amounts vary depending on household size and location.
Here is a breakdown of the rebate amounts by province:
Ontario:
$140 for an individual
$70 for a spouse
$35 per child
Rural supplement of $28
Alberta:
$225 for an individual
$112.50 for a spouse

Saskatchewan:

Due to their independent pollution pricing systems, residents of British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec and Yukon are not eligible for this rebate.
Rural residents will benefit from a supplement that has increased to 20% of the base amount— up from 10%, pending Royal Assent.
According to the CRA, carbon rebate payments are adjusted annually based on changes in carbon price to ensure they align with provincial revenues.
The CRA notes on its website that individuals who did not file their taxes electronically may receive their payments 6 to 8 weeks later.
Individuals who do not receive their payment on the expected date are advised to wait 10 business days before reaching out to the CRA.
Additional payments for the carbon rebate are scheduled for January and July 2025, respectively.
