A total of six brands of caffeinated drinks are being recalled this week from retailers across Ontario.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a recall alert on Friday (July 28) for Fast Twitch energy drinks including products from Bang, C4, Cocaine, Ghost, and Ryse Fuel.

“The affected products are being recalled from the marketplace due to various non-compliances related to the caffeine content and labelling requirements,” the CFIA said in the recall statement.

The drinks were distributed by the following companies: T & E Imports, GPAE Trading Corp., Les produits Raredrank Inc.

The recalled items also appear to not include the proper English and French labelling requirements.

“The products have been sold nationally and online,” the CFIA reported.

It is the second time this month that energy drinks have made the recall list.

On Wednesday (July 12) the popular Prime Energy, founded by social media celebrities Logan Paul and KSI was pulled from shelves for containing high levels of caffeine.

According to Health Canada regulations only 200 milligrams of caffeine per can are allowable. The Prime Energy exceeded the acceptable caffeine limit of 180 mg per serving.

Risks: Adverse health effects for children, pregnant individuals, breastfeeding individuals, and those sensitive to caffeine. Some symptoms include insomnia, irritability, headaches, and nervousness.

What should you do: If individuals think they have fallen sick after consuming the energy drinks should contact their healthcare provider. Throw out any of the recalled products.

The CFIA is advising consumers who make food and beverage purchases online to not assume the products meet the Canadian requirements.

Anyone who witnesses the recalled items being sold are asked to remain vigilant and file a report with the CFIA.
